Sunday, September 19 2021

Mutt Strut is a dog-friendly 5K run/walk-a-thon benefiting the over 3,300 animals cared for each year at Tails Humane Society. Tails is 100% donor and service fee funded, which means we can’t provide our live-saving services to homeless pets without support from animal lovers like you!

Same day registration opens at 8:30 am in the Hopkins Park shelter building.

Don't Forget! This year’s Mutt Strut 5K will be held both virtually and in-person. However you choose to participate, you will be helping homeless animals!

Vaccine Grant from PetcoLove!

In response to the DeKalb County Health Department's confirmation of an increase in the number of deadly Parvo virus cases among locally owned dogs throughout the community, our team at Tails began to work on a solution.

We knew that we needed to help put an end to the Parvo problem in our county that was infecting and killing the dogs right in our own community. Thankfully, PetcoLove was there for us with a life-saving vaccine grant that has provided Tails with a grant to give out free vaccines to community members in need.

Tails held its first FREE public dog vaccine clinic a few weeks ago and will hold another on Saturday, Sept 25 from 11am to 1pm at the corner of Ridge and Normal (NIU School of Nursing).

We have also begun giving out free vaccines to all of the pets who visit the Tails Spay and Neuter Clinic for surgery*.

*Free Vaccines are available while supplies last.

Did you know that Tails Humane Society operates our own Spay and Neuter Clinic? Conveniently located across the parking lot in our Training and Veterinary Care building, the Tails Spay/Neuter clinic is a non-profit surgical clinic that provides high quality, affordable spay/neuter surgeries and preventative care. Our vision is to reduce dog and cat overpopulation so that all pets have a loving home. As the area's only affordable spay/neuter clinic, we believe cost should not be a barrier to any pet owner who wants to do their part to keep their pet healthy and help control the pet population!

Adoptable Pet Spotlight: Misty and Frosty

Will we ever find a home??? We are Misty and Frosty, two sisters whose beloved owner died several months ago. We lived with her since we were kittens so this loss and the changes we've had to go through have been tough. And now we have been at Tails for several months, seeing other cats find wonderful families, but no one has chosen us. We are such nice 7 yr. old ladies. I, Misty, am a bit more outgoing while I, Frosty, prefer to delegate the socializing to my sister, most of the time. We are the best of friends and Tails is insisting that we be adopted together. To help, our Adoption Fees have been DONATED!! We promise to be well-behaved, kind and gentle. We would rather not share a home with other cats, though. If you or someone you know could open your heart and home to a couple of young senior kitties, we would be ever so grateful!
